The Bay of Liminka is worth it!

In addition to birds, the Bay is valued highly by birdwatchers. When yellow-brested bunting, black-tailed godwit or lesser white-fronted goose is seen at the Bay of Liminka, many birdwatchers, even from abroad, rush there to witness the event.

Not only the rare species, but the large numbers of birds also brings birdwatchers to the Bay of Liminka. Even experienced birdwatchers become silent in awe before the abundance of birds in the bay. For example, more than 20 000 bean geese migrate north t hrough the area every spring. A total of 170 species are known to nest in the bay area. The Bay of Liminka and the largest island in the northern part of the Gulf of Bothnia, Hailuoto, offer the best setting for birdwatching anywhere in Finland -in fact o ne of the best natural sites in the whole of Europe. There are 11 birdwatching towers in the Bay of Liminka - Hailuoto area, of which two are equipped also for physically disabled.
